New Study Reveals Liver Metabolite May Boost Muscle Regeneration and Longevity
A recent study by Chinese scientists published in ‘Nature’ found that lithocholic acid (LCA), produced naturally by the liver, may enhance muscle regeneration and promote longevity similarly to caloric restriction. The research highlighted LCA’s role in activating AMPK, a key molecule in metabolism linked to aging. Experiments with various organisms showed that LCA could lead to anti-aging effects, prompting researchers to explore its potential applications in humans. The study’s lead, Lin Sengai from Xiamen University, emphasized the long-standing human quest for a longevity elixir.
