Olympic Champion Léon Marchand Reacts to France’s Sport Program Cuts
French Olympic swimmer Léon Marchand expressed his disappointment after the French Ministry of Education announced the cancellation of a plan to add two extra hours of sports per week in middle schools. Following the decision, Marchand posted a clown emoji on social media, signaling his discontent. Initially proposed by President Emmanuel Macron to be implemented in all 7,000 colleges by 2026, the program was deemed too complex and unsustainable after a trial period. Moving forward, the additional sports hours will be limited to certain colleges where sports participation is low.
