Orthodox Christianity and Globalization: A Call for Cultural Respect
At the ‘Martyrika 2024’ conference in Kilkis, Dr. Maximos Charakopoulos emphasized the unique globalizing approach of Orthodox Christianity, which respects local cultures and traditions, standing in contrast to the homogenizing forces of modern globalization. He criticized the rising conformities in global culture, expressing concern over the erosion of distinct identities and historical values. Charakopoulos highlighted the importance of Orthodox teachings in fostering cooperation and understanding in international relations, advocating for the preservation of human dignity across diverse backgrounds as a central goal for the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy.
