Over 53 Million Deutsche Marks Exchanged in 2024 as Euro Transition Continues

Despite adopting the Euro over 20 years ago, Germans continue to exchange substantial amounts of old Deutsche Mark currency. In 2024 alone, 53 million D-Mark were converted into approximately 27.2 million Euros. The Bundesbank reported nearly 100,000 exchanges last year, with common denominations being the 100-DM note and the 1-Pfennig coin. Additionally, an estimated 163 million D-Mark notes and 23 billion coins remain unreturned, valued at nearly 12.2 billion D-Mark. The Bundesbank encourages exchanges without a deadline.
