Over 60% of Deportations Fail in Germany Despite New Laws

Germany is facing a significant challenge in enforcing deportations, with recent reports indicating that nearly 62% of planned deportations failed from January to September 2024. Out of 38,328 planned deportations, 23,610 could not be carried out. In comparison, the failure rate was 65.6% for the entire year of 2023. Contributing factors include individuals going into hiding, court injunctions, and logistical issues with flights. Political leaders, including Sahra Wagenknecht, have criticized the government for not living up to promises of increased deportation efficacy, calling the situation unacceptable.
