Pompeii Announces Daily Visitor Cap Amid Surge in Tourism
In response to a significant increase in tourist numbers, the archaeological site of Pompeii will limit daily visitors to 20,000 starting November 15. This decision follows a record 36,000 visitors on a free entry day in October. In 2023, nearly 4 million people explored the site, surpassing pre-pandemic levels by a third. Management noted that the cap may only impact a few busy days, as higher counts have primarily occurred during free admission events. Pompeii, famously preserved after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79, aims to enhance visitor experience amidst growing interest.
