Push for Increased Agricultural Support in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace
The regional governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Christodoulos Topjidis, has requested an increase in public funding for agricultural investment applications under the Rural Development Program. In a letter to the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, he proposed raising the support rate from 50% to 65%, similar to other Greek regions. Factors such as distance from main markets, lack of transport alternatives, wildfire impacts, and demographic challenges underscore the need for enhanced financial incentives. Topjidis emphasized that this funding could address both local and national issues in the region’s agricultural sector.
