Qatar Calls for Immediate Lifting of Sanctions on Syria Following High-Level Meeting
Qatar has urged the rapid removal of international sanctions imposed on Syria, following a significant meeting with Syrian leader Ahmad al-Sahr in Damascus. Majed al-Ansari, the spokesperson for Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, emphasized the necessity for lifting the sanctions, stating that the reasons behind them have dissipated with the recent removal of Bashar al-Assad from power. This marks the end of a diplomatic rift lasting nearly 13 years between Qatar and Syria, with Qatar seeking to facilitate the resumption of commercial flights to Damascus.
