Rediscovered 17th Century Frescoes Spark Fascination at Rome’s Villa Farnesina
Recently uncovered 17th-century frescoes in Rome’s Villa Farnesina have thrilled art enthusiasts. Discovered by an electrician, the vibrant works, depicting cherubs in lush colors, were hidden above a false ceiling for centuries. The villa, associated with Renaissance patron Agostino Chigi and later owned by the Farnese family, offers a glimpse into its artistic history. Although the frescoes are not open to the public for safety reasons, cameras allow visitors to view them. They are part of a new exhibition focusing on 17th-century art, running until January 12, 2025, and celebrating Raphael’s influence.
