Rotterdam Protests Against Abolition of Bed-Bad-Brood Policy for Vulnerable Refugees

On November 10, a protest took place in Rotterdam against the government’s decision to abolish the ‘bed-bad-brood’ scheme that provides shelter for vulnerable undocumented migrants. Rotterdam will continue to host twelve critically ill individuals but will evict the rest of the 45 asylum seekers from the program starting January 1. The councilor, Faouzi Achbar, cited budget cuts as the reason, while other cities plan to continue funding the program independently. Legal actions are underway by some affected individuals to maintain their shelter.
