Rotterdam to Host Europe’s Largest Synthetic Kerosene Factory by 2030

In a major step towards sustainable aviation, Rotterdam will establish a synthetic kerosene factory by 2030, producing enough fuel for 7,000 flights between Amsterdam and New York. Developed by Power2X and Advario, this facility will convert renewable electricity and CO2 into synthetic fuel, meeting upcoming EU regulations requiring airlines to mix in sustainable fuel. While this project marks significant progress, KLM acknowledges that it won’t be enough to fully green the aviation sector by the 2030 deadline. With an investment of 130 million euros, the factory positions itself as a leader in Europe’s energy transition.
