A serious truck accident occurred on the Egnatia Highway near Vamvakofyto when a truck overturned while attempting to overtake a suddenly stopped Bulgarian truck heading towards Thessaloniki. The driver was promptly transported to a hospital in Serres with severe injuries. Emergency services, including two fire trucks, arrived at the scene, which has led to the closure of the road to oncoming traffic headed to Thessaloniki.
