A spear-phishing scam deceived board members of a charity when they received a fake email seemingly from their president, requesting them to urgently purchase gift cards. One member unwittingly complied, spending 900 Swiss Francs on Paysafecards. The fraud was uncovered when she sent the card details to the wrong email address, revealing extensive email manipulation by the scammers. The president was unaware of the situation until it surfaced. Paysafecard confirmed it’s committed to fraud prevention and has refunded the stolen amount to the charity.
