Supreme Court Rejects Women’s Appeal Over Quarantine Prosecution
In a recent ruling, the Supreme Court upheld the High Court’s dismissal of an appeal by two women, Niamh Mulreany and Kirstie McGrath, who were prosecuted for refusing mandatory hotel quarantine after returning from Dubai during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Court characterized their arguments as ‘wafer-thin.’ Arrested at Dublin Airport on April 2, 2021, the women faced charges related to breaches of Covid-19 legislation, which could have led to hefty fines or imprisonment. Despite their claim of financial hardship and family obligations, the Court maintained that their case lacked substantial legal foundation.
