Surge in Electricity Prices Threatens December Bills in Greece
Electricity wholesale prices in Greece have surged over 30% in November, raising concerns about rising retail costs in December. The price for a megawatt-hour has surpassed €200, reflecting a staggering 110% increase since mid-October. This trend is mirrored across Southeast Europe, where prices are significantly higher than in Western Europe, peaking at €306 in Hungary. As consumers face skyrocketing costs, many are shifting to fixed-rate contracts, with participation increasing from 160,000 to nearly 700,000 in recent months.
