Thomas Haldenwang, currently the President of Germany’s Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, aims to enter politics by running for the Bundestag with the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). The 64-year-old has communicated his intentions to Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser and plans to step down once his candidacy is confirmed. Haldenwang has been with the office since 2009 and became its president in 2018, succeeding Hans-Georg Maaßen.
