Tragic Allergic Reaction Claims Life of Young Irish Woman in Japan

Aika Doheny, a 24-year-old woman from Kilkenny, died from complications of anaphylactic shock after consuming coffee containing milk—a substance she had always avoided due to severe allergies. The inquest revealed she collapsed at work shortly after starting a new job in Japan, where her mother had accompanied her. Despite efforts to save her, Aika was pronounced dead at St James’s Hospital in Dublin after being airlifted home. The coroner returned an open verdict due to insufficient information regarding the exact cause of the reaction. Aika was well aware of her allergies and typically opted for soy milk.
