A tragic boat capsized off the coast of Lampedusa, Italy, resulting in the disappearance of twenty migrants. Seven people were rescued, including an eight-year-old Syrian child. Among the missing are five women and three children, including the mother of the rescued child. The boat had departed from Libya, and those saved included two Syrian men, two migrants from Sudan, and two from Egypt. Mayor Filippo Manino expressed hope that this tragedy would be the last, coinciding with the end of the year.
