Tyrnavos Mayor Opposes Water Price Hikes and Merger Plans amid Financial Struggles
The mayor of Tyrnavos, St. Tsikritsis, has voiced strong opposition to potential water price increases and the merger of local water utilities in an open letter to the Regulatory Authority for Waste, Energy, and Water (RAAEW). He highlights that rising operational costs and escalating debts, which have surged from €70,000 in 2021 to nearly €3 million currently, threaten local water services. Tsikritsis warns that proposed government plans could lead to privatization and deteriorating services while advocating for affordable water rates for residents and debt restructuring options.
