UK Government Proposes Smoking Ban Near Schools and Hospitals
The UK government is planning to prohibit smoking in children’s playgrounds and outside schools and hospitals as part of a comprehensive tobacco and vapes bill aimed at fostering a smoke-free generation. Health Secretary Wes Streeting emphasized the importance of protecting children from nicotine addiction and second-hand smoke, while also proposing restrictions on vaping products. Although the plan includes the elimination of single-use disposable vapes in England and Wales by next June, proposals for banning smoking in pub gardens have been rejected. Public consultations on the measures will occur in the coming months.
