UN Appeals for Support Amidst Israel’s Ban on Palestinian Refugee Aid
Philippe Lazzarini, head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), has declared a critical moment for the agency, urging member states to intervene following Israel’s ban on its operations. During a UN General Assembly session, Lazzarini warned that without support, millions of Palestinian refugees could be plunged into chaos. He emphasized that changes to UNRWA’s mandate should be handled collectively by the General Assembly, not one state. This appeal for assistance comes after Israel’s recent law aimed at dismantling UNRWA, which has provided essential aid for decades.
