UNICEF Nurse Freed After Six Years of Captivity in Nigeria
Alice Loxa, a UNICEF nurse kidnapped by jihadists in northeastern Nigeria, has regained her freedom after six years in captivity. Loxa was abducted on March 1, 2018, alongside Red Cross personnel during an attack that left several humanitarian workers dead. She was forced to marry two leaders of the Islamic State West Africa Province and had a child with one. Following the death of her captor in 2022, she managed to escape on October 24, 2023. Efforts are now underway to address the complex issues surrounding her return to her original family.
