Water Crisis Declared in Central Corfu as Emergency Measures Requested
The mayor of Central Corfu, Stefanos Poulinos, has requested the declaration of a state of emergency due to a severe water supply crisis. As of mid-November, two of the four water wells supplying the island’s capital and suburbs have run dry, while the remaining wells are producing brackish water. The request has been submitted to the Ionian Islands regional governor, aiming for urgent actions to construct new wells and establish necessary connections, with fast-tracked funding sought from the Ministry of Civil Protection.
